Firing Up Copper Mountain Summer Events
By The Walsh Group
Although we heartily recommend Keystone, Colorado real estate for your second home, we understand why you may ask about a condo at Copper Mountain or a secluded cabin in Summit County. Copper Mountain is firing up its calendar with some fun summer events this year. The new Copper Mountain Village will be Grand Central for many of the festivities.
Known for its biking terrain and music venues, the businesses and residents of Copper Mountain real estate also host marathons, go-kart races, pony rides, Saturday night street parties, and an outdoor movie theatre at Copper’s Burning Stones Plaza. Copper Mountain is close enough to real estate in Keystone to make it hassle-free to live here and hop the Summit Stage to join in anytime. But if you choose Copper Mountain real estate, you can help define the cultural scene—and get in some ski lessons, tromp National Forest lands, ride miles of Colorado Scenic Byways, cast in celebrated fishing waters, indulge in wellness activities, and experience championship golf at Copper Creek Golf Course.
Bring a blanket and make yourself comfortable during a warm summer evening during 2008, and be sure to drop by the free Friday Night Street parties from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the West Lake Overlook. In addition to these ongoing venues, several longer events dot the calendar, including:
- A three-ring unique 4th of July weekend for the whole family. On July 4, the Angie Stevens Band performs followed by the Band of Heathens on the 5th. Besides music, there will be interactive games for children and an eco-friendly circus called The Sustainable Living Road Show featuring a caravan of experienced educators, activists, and entertainers inspiring the community to live in harmony with the earth.
- Beginning August 8, the world’s best guitarists congregate during the 4th Annual Guitar Town Festival. Guitar sales, expos, workshops, and jam sessions make this the perfect weekend for the guitar-and-music enthusiast.
- On August 29, the Copper Country Street Party kicks off the traditional Labor Day festival celebrating the best of the American spirit. Enjoy the country’s top fine artists along with nationally ranked rodeo competitions.
Besides the free pony rides at Copper Corral, your small children will love the petting zoo and face painting. Then, by fall, your older children can sign up for some innovative snowboarding and skiing instruction at Camp Woodward, a premier sports training facility that will offer year-round programming. Woodward also features The Cage, an indoor mini skate bowl.
The resort is also known for Derby Days in June when teams of go-karts go gung-ho on the Ten Mile Speedway. A week-long cycling tour in June traverses 8 mountain passes and 418 miles followed by the 2-day Copper Chase in July. The Copper Chase combines biking, running, orienteering, and high ropes; the Hawgfest combines biking and classic rock; the U.S. Half Marathon offers a refreshing 5K run; and the Courage Classic bike tour is just one of the benefit held in the resort. In August, the Copper Triangle alpine road ride and the Mini Cooper Show may be woven into the schedule.
