Summit County, Colorado residents have found that some of the best real-estate values in Summit County are in the Town of Dillon, Colorado. Among the options in Dillon CO real estate are single-family Dillon homes in quiet Dillon Valley neighborhoods. There are also a variety of Dillon town homes and condominium apartments in Dillon Valley East.
Buyers looking for vacation homes in the Colorado Rocky Mountain resort areas and those looking for Dillon investment properties are pleasantly surprised when introduced to the amenities in the Town of Dillon. First of all, it is in a great location just west of the Continental Divide at the Dillon/Silverthorne exit on I-70 and only minutes from River Run, Copper Mountain, Breckenridge, Arapahoe Basin, and Keystone real estate and ski areas—all connected with a convenient free shuttle bus.
Secondly, one of main attractions in Dillon is the beautiful and captivating Lake Dillon with its 25 miles of shoreline. Even investors can’t help but dream of sailing, wind surfing or motor boating in this gorgeous body of water at 8800 feet above sea level. The lake is the setting for awesome mountain sunsets and fireworks; and lively music can be found at the Lake Dillon marina on summer evenings—a great way to end a magical summer day in Summit County.
Lake Dillon and the Dillon Reservoir sit on the former site of the Town of Dillon founded by Moses Dillon, a Quaker from Maryland in the 1800s. The town was moved in 1961 in order to build the Dillon Reservoir as a source of water for the Denver Water system. Water from the reservoir flows under the Continental Divide and then into the South Platte River Basin on the Front Range. A section of the 50-mile, Summit County bike trail system connecting the nearby towns runs along the perimeter of the lake.
A third major amenity is the variety of restaurants, pubs, shopping and entertainment found within the Town limits. No longer a sleepy mountain town of yesteryear, the Town is now well equipped with all of the favorite stores including Borders, Office Max, Sport Authority, Pier One and Starbucks along with unique establishments like Virgin Island Sports, the Dillon Dam Brewery, and the Old Dillon Inn (called the Old D.I. by locals).
Whatever establishments may come and go over the years, these Town icons have stood their ground and the test of time. Virgin Island Sports may be one of the best area shops to rent equipment while the Dillon Dam Brewery is a fine micro-brewery featuring seasonal draft specials and tasty fair. The Old Dillon Inn structure was moved intact from its former site during the Town's move in the early 1960s. Additionally, a movie multi-plex and live theatre at the Lake Dillon Theater provide year-round entertainment.
