Legends of unsurpassed summertime mountain-bike experiences near Keystone CO real estate are murmured throughout the biking world. As soon as the ski season ends, the lifts near Keystone CO real estate heading to Keystone Mountain begin ferrying mountain-biking enthusiasts to an extensive trail system boasting some of the most-technical downhill courses in the United States.
Even from the vantage of Keystone homes, the local bike-path system connects to more than 200 miles of scenic trails rambling through Summit County real estate. Couched between the Arapahoe National Forest and the White River National Forest, talk of Colorado's Keystone real estate and Keystone Bike Park—with their stunning scenery, alpine wildflowers, high-mountain lakes, and local wildlife—is accented with superlatives.
The Keystone Bike Park is the official training ground for Yeti Cycles. From Dercum Summit’s 11,640 feet to the base at 9,280 feet with 2,360 feet of vertical drop and 55 trails, the Bike Park consists of some of the country's best downhill trails with progressive terrain for riders of all abilities. The beginner and intermediate biker can enjoy roller-coaster rides over bridges and berms without the steepness or rock gardens that hard-core bikers experience during some of Colorado’s most exhilarating expert downhill challenges.
As the hub of world-class single track, it is no surprise that large mountain-bike events are held here, drawing thousands of experts to the area. In June, Big Foot Productions and the Resort introduce the G3 Gravity Series featuring two downhills and a super D for a cash purse. Then in September, the best regional riders descend once more for the Climax Mountain States Cup Finals with cross-country, downhill, super D and dual-slalom races.
The trails of the Bike Park combined with the trails branching from the Colorado Trail provide seemingly endless riding opportunities. The “East Forest” trail gives riders two massive drops on the starting hill that will lead to many North Shore sections including a full 18-foot corkscrew and a huge wooden drop at the end. The “Eye of the Tiger” winds in and out of the forest and offers man-made and natural features (bridges, berms, rocks, etc.) with the option to try more difficult features. Lower on the mountain, “Even Flo,” is a steep shot with wooden berms, ramps, and tight, technical turns. “Helter Skelter” is a downhill shot that give riders a fast fall-line descent through a chute in the trees.
“Aqueduct Trail” has a couple of miles of single track that are so much fun that some ride them all day. And new trails are continually being added. The “Money,” trail accessible off of “Paid-N-Full,” is a difficult trail with 22 tabletop features and massive berm turns. The three sections of expert-only trail (“Milky Way,” “High-Speed Dirt,” and “Jam Rock”) that opened in 2006 feature a technical rock playground, jumps, berms, and bridges. Construction is planned for more new trails to be opened soon.
A local full-service bike shop at River Run offers full-suspension demo and rental bikes, along with a large variety of mountain bikes, bike clothing and accessories for sale. The Resort offers guided biking excursions and other explorations. And everyone can hone their skills at the ASX Skills Park at the base of River Run, which offers sessions on features ranging from exposed bridge rides to gigantic teeter-totters, a way to progress your skills with beginner and intermediate jumps and to master the expert gap jump.
